ABOUT THE ARTS PROJECT
WE BELIEVE THAT CREATIVITY IS THE FUEL, AND ART IS ITS' LANGUAGE
LOIS SAPERSTEIN has worked for the last twenty-one year’s to raise awareness of the impact of the arts, forming the nonprofit, Center For The Arts: Creativity, Experience, Empowerment to create, develop and facilitate arts programs with youth at risk across the USA. Through this nonprofit she created the first business partnership with the School of Social Work at Rutgers University to create The Breaking Down The Walls: Reaching Youth at Risk Through The Arts National Conference and the Arts IN Prevention Certificate Program to train social workers and artists in using the arts for violence and substance abuse prevention in communities, schools and youth facilities. These programs lasted for ten years. She has created many different arts programs still in use today, state initiatives, presented at conferences and written articles. Throughout her career she has worked to buttress the arts and its’ impact. The Arts Marketing Partnership was created to try to help arts organizations market themselves.
A CAMPAIGN FOR THE ARTS
We're looking at the value and the impact of the arts in communities.
CAN YOU IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT THE ARTS?
CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE?
SPRING INTO ACTION!
Start asking the question, share through Twitter [theadtpg], and Facebook [theartsdothepublicgood]
Send to me so I can collate these responses.
If you are an organization ask your staff, friends, post the question on your website. I am asking that you participate as an organization or individual member and all I am asking is that you ask the question and share it with me. Let’s start the conversation together.
HELP US REACH A GOAL OF 25,000 RESPONSES.
How do we place value on something? Determine whether you can imagine not having it in your life. That is why we are asking the questions;
Can you Imagine a World Without the Arts? Can you imagine what it would look like?
Join the conversation, there is more to the arts than meets the eye. We will create an Arts Revolution.
We want everyone’s voice
We will create an Arts Revolution.
A movement expressing the continuum of value of the arts, and its’ impact upon our lives. It is about all those small and medium size arts organizations across the country doing amazing work, making an impact on their communities and the individuals who participate in their programs. It is about all those individuals who will pick up a pencil or make a video to express an idea or feeling. It is about how the arts can impact our health and wellness.
It is about the artists and designers who make a living through the arts and how the arts impact our built environment.
It is about new theater pieces and the community theaters. It is about telling stories, it is about dance and music.
Sometimes we need to stop and think about it to realize how extensive the arts are woven into the fabric of our lives.
ART IS ALL AROUND US
The arts are involved in our daily lives whether you know where to look or not.
It’s the design of your soda can and cereal box, or the graphics on your video game. It’s the songs you sing or listen to on your cell phone and that quilt your grandmother made you years ago and the books stacked on your bedside table. It is the images you see on walls in the streets.
The graphics on your clothes. The music videos you watch. The poems and stories you write in your journals. The photos and videos you take on your cell phone.
ART EXPRESSES FEELINGS, COMMUNICATES IDEAS, REVITALIZES COMMUNITIES, AND ENHANCES HEALTH AND WELLNESS.
It is all ART, and it affects our lives in ways both subtle and obvious, in expected and unexpected ways.
SO NOW IS THE TIME TO START A NATIONAL CONVERSATION
Collect all the responses, share them, post them, print them in a catalog and get them to members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
A couple of responses: the arts are to society as oxygen is to breathing [I was stopped in an elevator] Without the arts the world would be black [this was said in a group of physically challenged young adults in upstate NY and why I decided to go with a black teeshirt]
I would like everyone’s voice to be heard through Facebook [theartsdothepublicgood],
Twitter [theadtpg], Instagram [theartsdothepublicgood], or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
PHASE TWO: THE ARTS DO THE PUBLIC GOOD
How have the arts impacted your life, or community? How have they impacted society?
LET'S PUT A FACE ON IMPACT.
Let’s tell your stories.
Let’s start an Arts Revolution, where the arts are just as important to your mental health as exercise is to your physical health, where the arts are vital to healthy communities. Where the arts speak for social justice. Where the arts connect us all. Where the arts enhance health and wellness.
We also want to create a book with these stories, put them online, and share them.
